EU and India- Towards a sustainable future- An Art from waste Installation project

As part of our engagement with the EU Goes to School project, our school participated in the Waste to Art initiative, EU and India- towards a sustainable future. Seven schools from Delhi NCR were invited to create Art Installations using waste materials.

Our concept was titled, ‘Fishing for trouble’.

Sustainability on land and water is the need of the hour. We have shown marine life stuffed in garbage. And on land, the tree is half prolific and half withered, symbolising the current state of deforestation and the need to nurture more trees.

If we continue with our unsustainable ways, we are indeed fishing for trouble. E waste is a big problem too but technology can be used to solve the problem.

The EU delegation led by Mr. Žymantas MOZŪRAITIS, Deputy Head of Mission from the Lithuania Embassy, along with their support partner, Delhi Street Art, visited our school to view the Art from Waste Installation and interacted with our students.

His Excellency. Žymantas MOZŪRAITIS, addressed our students about the partnership between EU & India, towards a Sustainable Future. We learnt that the EU is actively encouraging the participation of citizens, businesses and stakeholders in the EU policymaking process for Sustainability. The SDGs localisation of the EU translates the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, looks at  challenges in the the Indian  context and defines, implements and monitors local actions with strategies that contribute to the global achievement of the SDGs.

For the Art from Waste Installation, Art teachers involved students of multiple grades. It has encouraged creative use of materials, design thinking and above all, a sense of responsibility towards the environment. This project will be a life long learning opportunity as students venture  out into the world with a sense of purpose.

The next step is of this partnership is the culmination in Dili Haat where students will be felicitated in front of the public Waste to Art Installation created by Delhi Street Art, in the presence of dignitaries from EU and Indian government.
